The success of a Dorset brewery’s traditional ale has brought a £14,647 boost for the county’s Air Ambulance over the past two years.
Palmers Brewery, Bridport, has been putting aside 5p from the sale of every pint of its Palmers 200 ale for the life-saving charity.
Palmers 200 was brewed for the first time in March 1994 to celebrate 200 years of the firm’s brewing in Bridport. This popular premium ale has been winning plaudits ever since. Beer guru Roger Protz says: “It’s a finely balanced blend of malt, hops and quenching citric fruitiness.”
Cleeves Palmer, from Palmers Brewery, said: “I am extremely passionate about supporting the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. It’s a local charity which anyone could need at any time and we are delighted to be able to help them.”
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance fund-raising co-ordinator Annette Plaistow-Trapaud said: “We are hugely grateful to Palmers Brewery and all the other people who help us to raise the £1.4 million a year we need to keep our helicopter flying.
“We pride ourselves on having an outstanding air ambulance emergency service and this is only achieved through constant support from the public as we receive no Government or Lottery funding. Palmers Brewery and their respective pubs that support us should be very proud of their contribution.”
The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance will be celebrating its 10th birthday on June 12 with a special event at its airbase in Henstridge.
The Air Ambulance has attended over 7,000 missions since its launch in March, 2000, many of them life-saving.
