  4. BAG A BRA WEEK ANNOUNCED

    June 15, 2009

In aid of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Last June over 4,000 unwanted bras donated during Castlepoint’s Bag A Bra week raised £2293.72 for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. This year from Monday, 15 June, the retail park and the air ambulance charity hope that the special pink recycling bins will attract even more donations and that the 540 meter washing line of bras strung across the walkways will create awareness to the recycling campaign.

Tracy Bartram, Fundraising Co-ordinator for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, said that the money raised from the Bag A Bra week will not only raise crucial funds to support the life saving helicopter and its BagaBradedicated crews who can fly up to 6 emergency missions each day across the two counties, but will benefit women in developing countries who do not have the money or selection of bras offered by retailers in the UK.

At the launch attended by members of the Aquarians Netball team, staff from the NVU2 hair and beauty salon and M & S, Peter Matthews, General Manger at Castlepoint, said: “Our customers have been fantastic over the last year in supporting the air ambulance. Through events and recycling through the main clothing banks over £16,000 has been raised.” (more…)

  6. YAOS gives £3,250 to Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance

    June 9, 2009

On Monday 8th June, Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society presented a cheque for £3,250 to Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. This sum was raised from a bucket collection made at the last YAOS production “High Society”, with a donation by YAOS.

CloseThe presentation took place at YAOS headquarters Edwards House and was made by YAOS President David Burke to Mr Jim Burroughs, representing Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. Also present was Yeovil Town Mayor Cllr Wes Read and YAOS Chairman Andrew Helson.

Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance is a Registered Charity and provides an air ambulance service for the citizens of Somerset and Dorset. The helicopter is based at a new purpose built airbase at Henstridge Airfield. Since its launch in 2000 it has attended over 6,000 missions, many of them lifesaving, and is deployed on average 3-4 times each day.

The next production by Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society is “The Gondoliers” at the Octagon Theatre from 5th to 10th October 2009. This new award-winning version vaults the action from the mid 18th Century to the exuberant 1920s, including a resetting of the “Cachucha” into a “Bee-Bopping” Charleston. Complete with squealing flappers, the odd gangster and a line-up of eccentric “Royals”, this show is full of movement and fun! For further details see the YAOS website www.yaos.org.uk.
