  1. AFC Bmth U9’s raise funds in Sponsored ‘Keepy Uppy’ Competition

    April 17, 2009

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were today delighted to hear that AFC Bournemouth Centre of Excellence U’9s squad have raised a tremendous £640-70 in their recent Sponsored ‘Keepy Uppy’ competition.

The idea of helping to raise funds for the air ambulance came from AFC Bmth goalkeeping Coach and U9’s manager, Vince Bartram whose wife Tracy is a fundraising coordinator for the air ambulance.
The children were treated to an exciting trip to the helicopters base at Henstridge airfield to meet the crew, and see the helicopter. Whilst there, the crew were called to an incident which helped everyone understand the importance of the work the air ambulance does. All 12 boys took part in the competition, which was held on 17th April.

“The enthusiasm the boys showed on the visit was tremendous”, explained Tracy Bartram. “It seemed to spur them on and they really wanted to raise as much money as possible. This competition not only helps the boys’ footballing skills, but also raises crucial funds, which ensure we continue to save lives. We are now looking at the possibility of linking up with other clubs to do similar fundraising competitions which could raise funds for the charity and the clubs combined”, she concluded.

Derek Old, AFC Bmth Centre of Excellence Manager gave his backing to the initiative. “I am thrilled that the young players in the Centre of Excellence fully support this way of helping the Air Ambulance. Any one of us could need the air ambulance at any time; you never know when one of us might need it. We are all looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership with the charity.” (more…)
