  10. Weymouth Vehicle Preservation Society show their continued support

    August 3, 2010 by Nick

In 1984, a group of vehicle enthusiasts got together in Weymouth with the intention of forming a society for like-minded people. The only criteria for membership were that one had to own, or be enthusiastic about, vintage and classic vehicles – ownership was not a necessity. No age limit on vehicles has ever been stipulated and neither has the type – cars, motorcycles, commercials, military, models and even stationary engines are all grist to our mill.

Within a couple of years of being formed, membership had grown to a level where the society was able to organise vehicle runs and to display their vehicles to the public. Then in 1988, it was suggested that a “big” run be organised and members of other clubs and societies be invited to take part. This turned out to be the birth of the “Dorset Tour”, an event that has taken place every year since.

Since 1988 Weymouth Vehicle Preservation Society has £ 36,405.2 for local charities. (more…)
